1. Get everything out of the

closet Empty the ENTIRE closet, don’t be afraid of the mess and chaos you create. My whole living room was filled with all the stuff that was in the pantry. But it helped me stay really focused and clean up the mess. Plus, I could see much better what I have and what could go!

2. Buy matching bins

An organized closet must also be beautiful. All different trays and months caused so much extra chaos.

 3. Don’t clean up, start organizing

It feels super overwhelming, all that junk together. And you tend to clean everything up and sort it out first. Grab one bin and start with the stuff you have the most of or the group you can easily oversee. For example, I have a lot of baking stuff! While I placed everything in a container, I sorted everything out by best before date or stuff that I actually never used anymore.

4. Label everything

Or at least the bins. This is super important when all different people are diving in the closet to grab a quick snack or to store groceries. Labeling keeps everything efficient and organized, even when bins get empty.

5. Arrange your closet

After everything is in containers, you have to put it in the right places. You may want to put some bins in kitchen cupboards, others on a higher or lower shelf for easier access. Plan the things you use every day on the shelves that you instinctively reach for easily (usually eye level and a little lower).

6. Function is most important

I thought it was important that my closet looked nice, but function is the most important! The bottom shelf is not the prettiest, but it is the most functional. And what you don’t see now is that I hung a hook for the ironing board on the right wall! Not pretty at all, but practical.
