Step 1: Cleaning the iron with salt

You don’t need to buy anything special for this, because everyone probably has some salt in their house. Sprinkle some salt over your ironing board and go over it with a warm iron . You will notice that the sole will shine again. Turn off your iron and then wipe the sole with a dry cloth.

Step 2: Cleaning the iron with vinegar

Vinegar is in any case a good remedy for everything that you want to use to remove limescale . So also when you want to clean your iron. Soak a piece of kitchen paper in cleaning (vinegar) and place your iron on it. Leave it on for a few hours and then wipe the sole with a slightly damp cloth. The lime residues disappear like snow in the sun.

Step 3: Cleaning the iron with candle wax

There is a good chance that you are not yet familiar with this way of cleaning your iron. But you can also easily clean the sole of your iron with candle wax . How do you do that then? Let the iron heat up for a while and then go over it with a white candle. Then iron over a thick layer of kitchen paper. You may have to repeat this a few times, but after that you will definitely see results!

Step 4: Descale the iron

Is the sole of your iron shiny clean again? Don’t forget to descale your iron well. Fill the water tank with cleaning vinegar. Turn on your iron and press the steam button a few times. Turn off the iron and let the vinegar soak for a few more hours. Then empty the reservoir, rinse a few more times with water and clean the bottom of the iron with a cloth.
